Perfect for adaptive quizzing!! Saving yourself time looking up answers to some random question from the caption of a picture in a random textbook isn’t cheating. :) Busy work, no more! Used it for the first time tonight - half asleep and I remembered I had an assignment due in a couple hours. The assignment was an adaptive quiz where you had to answer questions until you “leveled up”. I didn’t have to spend hours answering the same kinds of questions over and over and wasting time looking up answers in the book so it didn’t hurt my percentage. I scan the question, and while it is searching (only a few seconds), I would answer the question on my own. Submit if I guessed it right, and change it if I guessed wrong. Saves so much time because once you answer, the rationale is right there. Can’t believe I’m only not discovering this app... but I’m beyond thankful nonetheless. *EDIT: Obviously use the app wisely. Don’t substitute it for knowledge, and always verify your answers. The answers are pulled from Quizlet and like sources, that are made by students just like us. But if I know some tiny tidbit isn’t going to be on my professor’s exam, it can be a little hard to justify reading six paragraphs on the topic to try to find my answer. And here comes in - Socratic!

I never leave actual reviews on anything, so let this be a testimony within itself hahahah. As a highschool Junior, I can attest that this is the best app ever. Thank you Google for making this free, it’s ridiculous that some apps charge students for a genuine learning experience. angle I was super skeptical of this app at first, when my friend recommended it. So skeptical that I downloaded it, but didn’t even open it until a year later. Now that I’ve been using it , I can’t believe survived 2 full highschool years without using it. I needed this app for Algebra 2 because I was not learning efficiently with my given course material, and failed in my sophomore year. I knew I needed to pass this year, but it was still a struggle to do without cheating. This app doesn’t just give me answers, it explains how to get them step by step not only so I can understand but so I can have proof if my teacher ask lol. I am passing all of my assignments so far, so the future is looking bring for me. As an online student, this is the best tool out there for anyone who cares about their learning. Point your phone at some math, and the PhotoMath app will spit out an answer using your device's camera.

I started out covering tech policy in Washington, D.C. for The National Journal's Technology Daily, where my beat included state-level tech news and all the congressional hearings and FCC meetings I could handle. Math class is tough, right? Just ask Teen Talk Barbie.

Luckily, Barbie has since evolved in the last 20 years to embrace less vacuous exploits, but not everyone can be Ada Lovelace.

An Android version is expected next year.

"It makes math easy and simple by educating users how to solve math problems," according to app creator Microblink.

Indeed, the app does show its work, breaking down how it got to a particular answer. But that, of course, might just make it easier for math-averse students to cheat on their homework. Presumably phones are not allowed during in-class tests, but I haven't actually been in a math class since 1998 (programmable graphing calculators ftw!), so who knows?

Right now, the app supports arithmetic expressions (plus sign, division, etc.), fractions and decimals, powers and roots, and simple linear equations.

A quick test on iOS produced mixed results. An easy addition problem (230 + 230 + 230 + 230) returned the correct answer. But the app did nothing with a more advanced problem (pictured above), though perhaps that one did not qualify as a simple linear equation.

Right now, the app does not support hand-written math problems, so you'll have to focus it on problems in a math book rather than scribbles in your notebook.

A new app can give you the answers to your math homework and even explain how to solve it just by taking a picture.

Called Socratic , the free app uses artificial intelligence to determine what information you need, and returns ‘explainers’ and videos to give you step-by-step help.

The firm says it’s like having a ‘digital tutor in your pocket,’ generating answers from a community of teachers and students.

Socratic doesn’t just work with math.

The tutor app can also help with questions in science, history, English, economics.

According to the developers, it’s trained on millions of questions, allowing it to identify the relevant concept.

‘Socratic’s AI combines cutting-edge computer vision technologies, which read questions from images, with machine learning classifiers built using millions of sample homework questions, to accurately predict which concepts will help you solve your question,’ the firm explains.

A video demonstrating its capabilities shows just how fast it can work, pulling up a solution and explanation for a simple ‘solve for y’ math problem in just moments.

The app focuses on maintaining ‘jargon-free’ content to make it easier for students to understand what’s going on.

As the video shows, the solutions are shown with a clear breakdown of each step.

It also shows color-coded instructions and graphs to help get the information across, along with videos from Khan Academy, Crash Course, and other sources.

And, math is just the latest in its many capabilities.

Students can also ask it questions from other areas, taking a picture of something like ‘what is mitosis’ or ‘explain how a transgenic plant differs from a hybrid plant’ to pull up an explanation or definition.

Socratic so far supports 23 different subjects, including Anatomy and Physiology, Chemistry, Physics, Calculus, Psychology, English grammar, and History.

But, the team has big plans for the future.

A page of ‘future subjects’ on their site reveals Socratic could soon expand to cover everything from Music Theory to Robotics, calling on people to become a founder ‘to help grow and launch these subjects.’

The app is available for iOS devices for free on the App Store , and the firm says it is ‘a lifesaver.'
