Happy Monday Jumble fans! Our first puzzle of the week began with four anagrams that were listed in descending alphabetical order. The only one that returned as having been previously played was GULAH. The clue words they produced were all well established entries in the Jumble lexicon. FECEAD was the only one to trip me up as I originally thought it was FACADE. Other than that, they were a piece of cake to work through.
The setting for today’s cartoon is a dining room where we see a young boy doing his homework. The sentence informs us that he’s looking up the definition of “fist” which struck me as odd, but I figured it would have something to do with the final answer. Another thing that I found peculiar was how he was using a dictionary to look up the definition when his laptop was already on the table. Since we’re unable to see his screen, the only thing I can think of is that he may have run out of juice and decided to look up the definition manually. Dad can be seen in the background checking in on his son’s progress. I noted that he was wearing a t-shirt with an acoustic guitar leaning against a window, but I couldn’t find a match for it in the merch areas of Jumble Jeff’s favorite bands. My favorite detail was the little dog curled up in his bed taking a snooze. Oh, and in case you were wondering, there was no discernible text on the paper he was writing on or in the dictionary he was looking at.
The final solve was an anagram consisting of 11-letters. Four of them were vowels and seven were consonants. With FIST fresh on the brain, HAND was quickly identified in the layout. CLOSE and AT were easily found in the remainder to seal the deal. I did find CLOSE AT HAND played numerous times in the past, but the most recent use was nearly four years ago so the punny answer still felt fresh and new to me. Have a marvelous Monday everyone, and just keep NUGBILJM!

Fun week! Got the anagrams pretty quick. Solution to puzzle came along soon…. I came up with an Angela sentence using the anagrams but was not happy with it so not posting it tonight. Tomorrow is a new day!
I’m looking forward to seeing it, Mig. Have a great start to your week!
It was to Laugh watching the thief attempt to Deface the Locket of Sunny. She had the police Close At Hand and the fiend was easily caught. More rain on the plains . . . I think we’ve got it. Congrats to Nebraska baseball for winning the Big Ten championship with 3 games to spare. Congrats too for Phil Mickelson becoming oldest golfer to win a major. It inspires us other old dudes.
Well you can’t say he hasn’t had any practice! Congrats to both him and your Huskers. Enjoy the day, OO. 🙂
I was musing over the puzzle answer and figured out AT HAND….but what could that first word be? In a bit of a hurry this morning so tackled the anagrams, which solved quickly, and found the first word CLOSE. Shoulda figured that one out, duh !!!
So close, Terry. Great job nonetheless! 🙂
Good morning. To be honest, the second word was scrambled so good that I had a tough time coming up with it. Then the cobwebs disappeared and I saw LAUGH and started laughing at why something that simple took so long to get. The cartoon answer had all the clues in the picture for an instant solve but this senior never picked up on it. I actually looked up fist for its meaning. I finally succeeded which started this week off right. Until tomorrow stay well and stay safe.
I keep telling you…you HAVE to study that cartoon! 😉 Be well, and stay safe, Paul. 📚🙋🏻♀️
Anagrams were a Monday snap, quickly followed by the cartoon solution,as the dictionary was clearly ” close at hand”.Congrats to Phil Mickeloson on his win,he shares his birthday with our son Greg,June 20, so he’s always been one of our favorites.
Phil Mickelson is our favorite too.
Always have loved Phil! When he got his first green jacket I had goosebumps…..
Despite having typed DEFACE on my worksheet, I composed two entries using the word Facade! 🤦🏻♀️ Here’s the re-write… 🌞 The image of the LOCKET reflected on the building with the day being so SUNNY seemed to DEFACE it, but with nothing CLOSE AT HAND to use for shade, they were forced to LAUGH it off…🌞
🤷🏻♀️ The day that started SUNNY, now had turned to one of gloom, Whoever broke into their home had trashed it room by room, A nervous LAUGH fell from her lips, so much did they DEFACE, She stood in shock as slowly tears were streaming down her face And then she saw her LOCKET…thrown atop the corner stand… Relieved it wasn’t taken…lying there so CLOSE AT HAND 🤷🏻♀️
I too was wondering why the little fellow was using an old fashioned dictionary with his lap top right there but then figured perhaps his school assignment was on the screen? Nevertheless, it was an easy solve this morning with both the anagrams and cartoon answer. Happy Monday to al! ☺️
Betty…great logic! 👏🏻👏🏻! The other day, my niece, age 5, had a short story that she’d read that day with her teacher, (virtual learning), on her laptop screen, with the words to define highlighted. She had her children’s dictionary there, to look up the ones that she needed help putting into words…📚🙋🏻♀️
Hi all – Got the words today, and figured HAND would be in the answer, but needed the letters to see the pun.
I also couldn’t come up with a sentence I liked, so I’ll just pass along the usual good wishes to everyone.
