Music Reflection Paper
For me personally, music appreciation is defined as looking at different pieces of music and musical forms, and learning to find appreciation for them. This appreciation is formed not only by listening to several pieces of music, but by learning to understand what you may be listening too. This involves introducing yourself to many pieces of music and learning to interpret, what makes each piece different and unique. When a student learns the historical backdrop and the composer behind the musical piece, it gives a clearer picture of how that particular piece of music was …show more content…

Numb By Linkin Park related text ( Belonging )
I have chosen to research this song and video as they are the embodiment of the sub-culture that is the main target audience for the 'emocore' genre. This song seemingly calls out to those who are sick and tired of being told to conform to societal norms, either by their parents or peers. This is a very 'emo' message to convey, as the target audience of emotionally troubled teens feel that they can relate to it in that they feel those around them try to force them into normality, not allowing them to express their emotional side. This song allows for the conveyance of those emotions in a very powerful manner, with the singer verging on screaming the lyrics in the chorus, which is a popular feature of heavier 'emocore' music. This idea is very much reflected in the lyrics with talk of expectations and 'pressure', also with the singer wanting to be 'more like me and less like you'. The lyrical style is very personal; reading almost as if it is a letter to a parent or peer who the sender is trying to break away from.…

Taylor Swift Analysis
I found this song to contain many musical concepts to create pleasing sounding song. The song features a homophonic texture by using Taylor Swift's vocals and accompaniment with her guitar. The beat and the rhythm in this song are very pronounced, the steady repetition of the majority of the same phrases. However she does differ in the throughout the song, for example at 12:14 the beat becomes noticeably spread apart from the previous sections. The beat continues to keep the time of the song up but there appears to be less beats per measure. The texture gives the song a simple and clear feeling and melody. The homophonic texture in the song highlights the melody played. The melody in 22 appears to be disjunct as her vocals range from low to high. In the video 12:52 is a good example of Taylor Swift using the disjunct melody. I feel that her use of melody gives the song depth and provides an upbeat feeling for the listener. I found that the main instrumentation in the song were from the string family, the guitar, the electric family, for the keyboard and use of her voice. I found that the pitch of the song remained at a relatively average speed throughout the song. Overall, I feel that Taylor Swift beautifully executed her song by using musical elements and her talent as a…
Song Analysis - Runaway Love by Ludacris
The lyrics aren’t just narrating the lives of Lisa, Nicole and Erica; it is narrating what millions of children are going through. This song portrays real life situations and I can guarantee you that every word in verse 1, 2 and 3 are completely true from the part where Lisa gets sexually abused to where Nicole is harassed by her step father. The song demonstrates the various types of abuse and pain each girl is going through, from the lines…

Cusick and Her Lesbian Relationship with Music
I need to claim that this idea of her amazes me. From my previous musical experience, I’m pretty sure that music is a subject highly intimate for me. For instance, I usually have reluctance when I’m asked to sing or perform a song written by myself, even if I think it is a brilliant one. And this won’t happen if the song is someone else’s. In my opinion, music, especially my own music which I’m personally attached to, is an expression of my true self, and that identity and personal characteristics contained in it makes it so special that I won’t be willing to share it with others, unless it’s someone really close to me.…
3.07 Personal Response
All though my parents never got a divorce I feel a connection with different pieces of the song and I thoroughly enjoyed the way he expressed his emotions throughout the song in words I would have never thought of using. The song is very vocal with a quite instrumental background that ties it all together, he uses so much emotion and power in his singing that it’s hard not to feel the same emotions he is feeling in this song. He talks about his parents fighting and him trying to keep them together which I feel like most children have tried to do when their parents are fighting.…

Song Analysis
This song displays a lot of sad emotions that can be felt by anyone. It is about a sad love story of two people. The 1st 4 lines means they’ve just broke up for some kind of reason. Yet, even though they love each other very much, they can’t do anything about it. It seems they cannot love each other because of a particular cause. The next 4 lines indicates that the man (because a man sang the original single) still thinks of his beloved for he still wishes to see her bright smiles in those times he was very saddened. Still, he’s unsure whether their love for each other will prevail.…

Katy Perry Firework Song Paper
This is a very different and I find it to be a little challenging assignment. For this assignment we were supposed to choose a song that is influential to us and write about the song. So, I decided to pick the song Firework by Katy Perry from the album teenage dream. This is easily one of my top ten songs of all time because this song tells you that you don't have to be afraid of who you are and who always have to show our true colors to the world. The song was released on October 28, 2010. It was on the number one spot for almost three weeks on billboard hot one hundred. Katy Perry wrote this song because she wanted to give voice to any people who were going through hard times in their lives and also to the kids who were bullied and help them discover their inner beauty and step up to the people who bullied them.…

Reflective Essay About Music
Reflective essay on music theory.
One thing that over the years I’ve become very good at is learning how to play many musical instruments. The different factors and components of this learning process include learning music theory, learning the basics of an instrument and how to apply different skills to various types of instruments such as string, brass, percussion and wind. Some of the instruments that I have learned are piano, organ, harpsichord, keyboard, guitar, bass, mandolin, trombone, cello, banjo, harmonica and soon the fiddle. Each of these different types of instruments required a different basic skill set.
Music Analysis Essay
With means to express oneself, helps one overcome the difficulties of life. This approach represents the entire nature of the hip hop culture, especially when dealing with social justice issues. Today, the hip hop culture association revolves around raps (lyrics) and the rappers which reflect how consumers receive messages about social justice issues. Unlike breaking and graffiti, the music/lyrics penetrate society more. However, for this analysis, the focus will rely on a visual element with a connection to hip hop music. Even though a music video would make sense as a visual means of expression, this analysis has more interest in the cover art that goes with a hip hop album. Also, this focus will lead to the question of how important is art

Music And Music Essay
For society music plays numerous roles in every individual’s life whether that be from playing it, singing, or even just listening to it, music effects everyone in some way and is used differently in people’s lives. Music can be used for art and self-expression, amusement, relaxation, and leisure according to Aristotle’s reading “From The Politics.” Music has had many effects on society opening the doors for creativity, inspiring the youth, and even educating. Artists construct songs that talk about love, family, friendship’s, politics, and life itself. Aristotle speaks on the usage of it and how it affects the way we think and act under some circumstances. For me personally, music became a passion after learning I can express myself in an environment where I can be comfortable. In the reading, Aristotle’s points are both practical and ideological as he makes a lot of points that can be made in today’s time while also giving his own opinion on a lot of subjects. There are many definitions for good music and bad music that can potentially lead to good or bad mortality based upon the message in the song especially if there are lyrics.
Music Appreciation Essay
When I was in fifth grade, I was caught between two worlds, playing a woodwind or string instrument. If I played a woodwind instrument I would have to blow in it to make music, but string instruments are played with a bow to make music. After much thought, I decided that the violin was the best instrument for me, because it has a beautiful, unique sound, plus the possibilities are never-ending. I could receive a compliment from a teacher, or even get accepted to the symphony.
Music In High School Essay
The music industry at Decatur High School is at its peak with artist making music at every corner. One pair of musicians affects the students at the school positively and negatively.
This was the day I had been dreading. I was participating in the Seattle Young Artists Music Festival, an event where students share their music with a small class and receive a lesson from the teacher. My violin teacher and my parents decided that this event would develop my musical skills, so they registered me with enthusiasm. I, on the other hand, was not so enthusiastic. I had never honestly enjoyed performing in the past and I was especially nervous about this event knowing that I would receive a music lesson from an expert violinist after my performance. It did not help to hear stories of strict, criticizing, and rude teachers from my siblings who had previously done this event either. I wondered how any good could come from this event. Though only flippantly, I even considered what would happen if I pretended to be ill or purposely injured my finger. However, before I knew it, the dreadful day arrived and I realized I would just have to go for it.
The age of Romanticism was from 1820 to 1910. During the long and glorious Age of Romanticism, artists of this time would approach their paintings, literature as well as their music with deep passion. The passion was so great, it was the same type of feelings that religious, social, and political partisans applied to their individual causes (Ferris & Worster, 2014, p. 175). “As newly restored kings and prelates repressed freedom of expression in politics and the arts, artists and intellectuals increasingly sought one another’s company, sharing among themselves the revolutionary sentiments they dared not express in public” (Ferris & Worster,

Music Observation Essay
I sat on the backstage of Derryfield School’s performance arts building, carefully going over the piano arrangements for Yiruma’s “Wait There” and “River Flows in Me”. Countless hours have I spent the past month going over each and every measure, making sure that I can play the entirety of each piece through memory and with my eyes closed. After practicing to perfection the past week, I felt confident in my ability to perform the music well in front of peers and strangers. However, an overwhelming sense of panic gripped me as I realize that I was only five minutes out from performing in front of a crowd of people I’ve never met or even seen in my life. Five minutes out to
Defining Music Essay
Music; Indefinable by words alone. It is not only something you can hear but what you can feel. It is something your soul is able to reach out and touch. Music also has the power to bring us as humans, together. It is one language spoken by all cultures, sexes, races, age and religions. Music also controls our emotions; it makes us happy, sad, angry, relaxed, etc. We also can express ourselves through music. It can affect our personality.. someone who listens to classical, like Mozart or Bach, all the time is going to be smarter and more intellectual than someone who listens to rap or metal, and someone who listens to more upbeat happier music, like Ska or Swing, is more likely to
Music is very important in the development of children but it is often undermined by other things that we deem or believe may be “more important.” Learning and developing through music begins before a child is even born and will continue through a child's entire life. We never stop hearing and the listening skills we learn as children will benefit us throughout our entire lives. Music helps brain development and can also help concentration among other things. It can be used in learning environments from pre-k all the way up into a college class. The benefits of music can truly never be measured whether it be classical or heavy metal, each type of music has benefits because some music is better than none at all. Listening to music as infants will set the building blocks as a toddler’s brain begins to develop, in turn listening to music as a toddler not only will continue to help the brain to develop in the toddler stage but will also help brain development in the next stage of life. Music is one of the most beneficial factors in the mental, physical and emotional stages of childhood and the earlier it is introduced the more beneficial it becomes.
Essay: Music Appreciation
The Musical Composition that has changed my life to how I see music is the song The Stroke from Billy Squier. I did not really know the meaning of the song, but it really Widened my Horizon in terms of music from only before listening to The Beatles, The Beach Boys, and The Monkeys. Then later being able to listen to Rush, AC/DC, Aerosmith And Other Really good rock bands that I still love today. Then I started collecting Records then I started collecting CDs, the first album I bought for myself is the majestic Black Sabbath Album “Paranoid” The album with the musical compositions Paranoid, Iron Man, War Pigs/Luke’s Wall, Planet Caravan, Rat Salad, Electric Funeral, And Fairies Wear Boots. This album was such an amazing introduction to Black
Piano Music Essay
The beautiful sound of piano music has captured the hearts of people since the early eighteenth century. Since then, many musicians have dedicated their lives to this instrument. Some players even play piano so well that it may seem that this instrument is easy to play. However, to be able to play the piano well isn’t easy; it takes a lot of skill. To become a good piano player, one must love music very much, have good finger techniques, and body flexibility.
The Influence of Music Essays
Musical instruments have played many major roles in helping with the construction of many societies around the world today. Many people do not realize what musical instruments have been responsible for and how they have helped shape the world today. There have been many instruments that have helped create and sculpt the world, but one instrument that I want to inform readers about is the trumpet and where it came from, as well as how it has changed over many years. The point that I am arguing is the fact that many people do not know where the trumpet has come from and how it has affected society.

The song “ANOTHER DAY IN PARADISE” can be used for different purposes. Here the focus is Writing. First, students say what the song is about based on pictures provided by the teacher. Then, they listen to the song and say what the author´s intention was when he wrote the song. After that, they talk about the topic for some minutes and finally, they write a letter to the president addressing the issue. When writing, they will be asked to use Modals of Advice, Possibility and Obligation.
Age: Adults
The activity below was made for the song “STARTING TODAY” by Elvis Presley. Although SHOULD is a grammar point learned by teens as well, this song is not suitable for them, so in case the target group is a teen group, I suggest that you adapt this activity for a song performed by a young band or singer. Keep in mind that the song must be about someone with a problem. Bands such as Good Charlotte or Simple Plan have lyrics that teens relate to.
The target audience here is an adult group, so students first share in pairs what they might know about Elvis. They play a brief Q/A game after searching for information online. After that, they listen to the song and find out what the song is about. To wrap it up, students write a letter giving advice to someone. In the end, you could have students read their letters and choose the best advice or tape them to the wall.
The song “HEAL THE WORLD” is used here to engage students into a discussion on world issues. First, students watch the video of the song and guess what it is about. Then, they are introduced to the vocabulary needed to understand the lyrics. After that, they listen to the song again and read the lyrics to check comprehension. Finally, they write a letter to their children telling them what kind of people they expect their children to be when they grow up.
The other option for the song is to focus on the verb THERE TOBE.
The song “YOU´LL BE IN MY HEART” can be used to discuss Prejudice . First, students talk about cartoons and what lessons we can learn from them. After that, they look at the pictures of three cartoons and guess what they have in common. Next, they listen to the song and say what it is about. Finally, they have a brief discussion on the topic and write their opinion about it.
We can practice WILL for Predictions and Promises with the song “YOU´LL SEE” . First, students guess who the singer is. Then, they predict what the singer will do after breaking up with her boyfriend. After that, they listen to the song and check. Finally, they pretend they have broken up with their significant other and write a letter telling them how they feel, using the structure.
The song “CRYING” can be used to engage students into a discussion on Breaking up and also focus on the Simple Past.
OPTION 1: First, students work on a puzzle to find the past form of the verbs in the song. Then, they listen to the song and fill in the blanks with the verbs found in the puzzle. Finally, they fill in a chart with the verbs in order to consolidate the past form.
OPTION 2: First, students talk for some minutes about Breaking up. Then, they listen to the song and find out who ended the relationship. Finally, assuming the song is a letter, they write a reply to it.
The song “ALL ABOUT THAT BASS” fits like a glove when the topic is self-image. You can also practice Should and Ought to. The activity suggested here is simple. First, students list all kinds of pressure we experience throughout life. Then, they listen to the song and guess which pressure the author is talking about. After that, they talk for some minutes and decide whether the song has a positive or a negative message. Finally, they write an article using should and ought to.
“WELCOME TO MY LIFE” is a song teenagers will definitely relate to. It´s great for the topic Social Pressures. The objective of the activity proposed here is engage students into a discussion by using the vocabulary learned. First, they list the difficulties they have been experiencing as teens and share them with a peer. After that, they listen to the song and say whether they relate to it or not. Then, they listen again and find 10 differences (synonyms for the language used in the lyrics.) In the end, students write a reply to the author.
The song “ROYALS” allows us to practice the Second Conditional although the lyrics don´t have it. First, students say whether they would choose fame or fortune and why. Then, they listen to the song and check what the author’s opinion about having money is. Finally, they engage into a written task, in which they will write about what their lives would be like if they were rich.
The song “BEAUTIFUL” is a good song to discuss self image, an issue teenagers relate to. First, students, in pairs, describe each other. Then, they report what they heard to a third person who will say whether their description was accurate or not. Then, they listen to the song and find mistakes in it. After that, they say whether they agree that we are more beautiful than we think. Finally, they write a piece on the topic.
The song “BROTHERS IN ARMS” gives room for reflection. The goal is engage students into writing. First, they read words taken from the lyrics and guess what the song is about. Then, they guess where those words go in the lyrics and listen to the song in order to check whether they are right. After that, they reflect and discuss what they think the last line in the lyrics means. Finally, they write a letter of reply.
The song “MAN IN THE MIRROR” is another great song which allows students to engage into a discussion on our role in the world. My suggestion is: First, students share what they know about the author and what they think about his music. Then, they listen to the song and read the lyrics in order to find out who the “man in the mirror” is. Next, they work on the vocabulary by matching the words and phrases provided with their definitions. Finally, they write a reflective paragraph about what they think the message in the song is.
The song “DEAR MR. PRESIDENT” is a great chance for students to practice speaking and debating. It also allows us to work with Modals of Advice, Possibility and Obligation. First, students read a few words on a power point slide and guess which of them will be mentioned in the song. After that, they listen to the song and find out. Then, there is a slide with facts about the USA and Brazil. Next, they list on the board the main problems in Brazil that have to be addressed pronto (social injustice, homelessness, corruption, religious intolerance, homofobia, violence, drugs, etc…). Finally, students are arranged in small groups and each group will discuss one different problem and propose/take notes of ideas to solve it. In the end, they have to present their ideas to their peers.
