Ga-Ga for Google
Users are fans of the company's highly relevant searches. We're fans because Google is a dotcom that's making money.
By Michelle Prather • Apr 1, 2002
Opinions expressed by Entrepreneur contributors are their own.
Depending on how hip to the Web you are, you may or may not have heard of Google. You've likely heard catch phrases like "odd Google," which is commonly used in Web logs and online diaries when visitor stats reveal a person reached a site by typing a laughable combination of words into the search engine. Or perhaps when utilizing Yahoo! to search the Web, you ended up with results "powered by Google."
Whichever way you look at it, the masses are catching on to the buzz, and an increasing number of users--from the 100-plus Internet companies that pay Google Inc. for its search services to journalists scouring the Net for extremely specific information--are looking to the Mountain View, California, search engine company for the best results. The exact formula for attaining the best results is a well-guarded secret, but the reasons why Google has not only stayed afloat amid the dotcom dive and current recession, but avoided layoffs to boot are quite obvious.

Internet has dropped twice this month and it's only the 7th. Super frustrating when I have homework that needs to be done and am in the middle of it. Prices are fair for a service that is unreliable.
Nichelle F | 01-03-2022
I had NO idea that I was being charged separately for wifi/ cable. When I went to At&t for cell phone. I'm not satisfied with the 3 bills I'm getting. I should have stayed with Mediacom and Straight talk. Thought they would be better but they are worse. Live and learn. I thought I was paying for both as bundle come find out only paying for one. So wifi been disconnected. This terrible my cable/ wifi have never been turned off before. Until I go with At&t
Courtney S | 07-26-2021
I don’t know who needs to hear this, but when you are finally getting to cancel this sorry service, make sure to cancel before a new billing cycle begins because they will not prorate your bill. On top of that if it’s conveniently right when your year ‘promotion’ is up be prepared to pay the inflated price for service you won’t even be using.

Mediacom internet is a reliable company, with high speed (sometimes requiring you to talk to their support staff to fix connection speed issues), but they have recently introduced data usage caps which leads to overage charges. Once you go over, you pay for each 50 GB block of data you consume. If you're over by 5 GB, that's one block. If you're over by 50.001 GB, that's 2 blocks. Many users won't hit their cap, but family homes with people who stream video and play video games online and download the games from the internet will be up against the data cap each month and will have to cut back to avoid overages.

How can I compare internet providers in Columbus ?
Before committing to any Columbus internet provider, it’s important to first determine that the plan you’re interested in matches your connectivity demands. Comparing providers is a crucial step in your decision-making process and there are several important factors to consider before making your final decision including:
- Bundling Options
- Contract Terms
What internet speed do I need?
The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) defines fast internet as a web connection offering download speeds of at least 25 Mbps and upload speeds of at least 3 Mbps. These standard speeds smoothly support most common online activities such as web browsing, high-definition video streaming, and file downloading.
How much bandwidth do I need?
Bandwidth is the maximum amount of data that can be transmitted via internet connection within a fixed amount of time. In simpler terms, bandwidth measures the total volume of information that can be transferred.
Learn how much bandwidth your household or business needs by determining the following factors:
- The number of people using the internet connection
- The number of devices using the internet connection
- The types of online activities users will be doing (i.e. gaming, 4K streaming, file downloading, etc.)
- The bandwidth required per each activity
For most households, at least 5 Mbps will suffice, but for larger office settings or households subject to heavy internet usage, 20 Mbps can easily accommodate all types of simultaneous streaming, downloading, and web browsing.
